Anche UFO avrà il suo remake. Notizie sempre più insistenti che arrivano da Hollywood, rilanciate dai siti internet più accreditati (in particolare Internet Movie Database, la “Bibbia” cinematografica del web), riferiscono che il produttore statunitense Robert Evans, dopo aver acquistato con ITV Global i diritti sulla serie, ha avviato i primi contatti con la Paramount che potrebbe essere interessata a realizzare e a distribuire un film per il grande schermo basato sul plot di UFO. L’annuncio ufficiale è stato dato a margine del festival di Cannes ed è stato riportato, tra le tante fonti, anche da Variety, la rivista-culto del cinema Usa.
Robert Evans è noto per aver prodotto negli Anni Settanta film-culto come Chinatown, The Black Sunday e Il Maratoneta. Nel campo dei remake, è suo il “Santo” del 1997 con Val Kilmer. Evans ha portato più volte sul grande schermo versioni in carne e ossa degli eroi del fumetto: da "Popeye” (1980), con Braccio di Ferro interpretato da Robin Williams, a "The Phantom" (L'uomo mascherato, 1996) con Billy Zane e Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Dalle prime indiscrezioni sembra che Evans voglia ambientare il film nel 2020. Per il momento non ci sono “rumors” su possibili intepreti. Si conoscono soltanto i nomi dei produttori associati – Avi Haas ed Henry M. Kessler – mentre per la sceneggiatura sarebbero stati incaricati gli autori Ryan Gaudet e Joseph Kanarek.
Una curiosità: tutte le notizie relative al progetto UFO di Evans riportano una sintesi del plot della serie creata da Gerry Anderson, con una piccola ma significativa imprecisione: affermano infatti che nella serie originale la SHADO si trova nel sottosuolo di una casa cinematografica a Hollywood, invece che sotto gli Harlington-Straker Film Studios, nei pressi di Londra...

IL PUNTO DI VISTA DI ISOSHADO

Come già ampiamente spiegato da Marco Raffa ci siamo: pare che davvero questa volta il film sulla serie UFO sia davvero alle porte. Come “portavoce” di ISOSHADO vorrei chiarire quale intende essere la nostra posizione in rapporto a questa ennesima iniziativa relativa alla nostra serie preferita.
Innanzitutto la nostra passione per UFO ha radici in due fattori importantissimi, il primo è il fatto che UFO sia una serie che risale ai primi anni ’70, elemento che identifica l’arco di età che, a grandi linee, ha la maggior parte di noi.
Il decennio 1970 – 1980, con tutte le problematiche e contraddizioni che ha presentato, è stato un periodo molto intenso, anni che tutti noi fan di UFO ricordiamo bene, chi per motivi storici, chi per ragioni personali, chi per entrambi questi elementi.
La seconda ragione di affezione per la serie è quella che ha motivato la creazione della nostra Associazione, cioè il desiderio di mantenerne vivo il ricordo in tutti i modi possibili, ma principalmente tramite rapporti con i protagonisti in carne ed ossa di UFO.
Non a caso Ed, Mike e George accettarono di assumere ruoli significativi, anche se a titolo simbolico, nell’organizzazione di ISOSHADO… Il nostro rapporto personale con loro, così come quello che abbiamo con Gito e tutti gli altri attori e attrici che hanno collaborato con noi ci ha consentito di sentire la serie mitica della nostra gioventù come una cosa “a portata di mano”… un po’ per la loro presenza fisica durante le nostre manifestazioni (e spesso anche nelle nostre case) e un po’ per i loro racconti di esperienza diretta sul set di UFO.
Tanto il primo elemento, quello relativo alla collocazione temporale della serie ed alla nostra malcelata “nostalgia” per quel periodo, quanto il secondo, ovvero l’amicizia con i protagonisti di UFO in carne ed ossa, sono condizioni assolutamente irripetibili; ciò determina il fatto che ISOSHADO non si occuperà di questo progetto, ma continueremo a divulgare la serie originale del 1970.
Spero di aver espresso chiaramente il nostro punto di vista che non intende essere né totalmente negativo, né vogliamo assumere un atteggiamento snob nei confronti di questo film.
Come qualcuno di noi ha giustamente detto “se ci avessero pensato 20 o 25 anni fa le cose sarebbero state diverse”… ora per noi è troppo tardi.
Troppo tardi per riconoscere in questo film un vero link alla serie… troppo tardi per ritrovare i “nostri” Ed e Mike…
Detto questo ci troveremo poi (sicuramente) tutti al cinema per vedere davvero cosa saranno in grado di fare con la nostra amata serie UFO… senza alcuna polemica né preclusione aprioristica, ma forse, qualcuno, con un po’ di malinconia.

UFO too will have its own remake.
Recurring news coming from Hollywood spread out by the relevant movie websites (particularly the film "bible" IMDB.com) tell us about US producer Robert Evans who, after acquiring UFO rights in team with ITV Global has started making contacts with Paramount, that may be interested in funding and distributing a movie based on the UFO plot. The official announcement has been made at the Cannes Film Festival and has also been reported, among others, by Variety, the US movie cult magazine.
Robert Evans is known as producer of cult movies o the Seventies like Chinatown, The Black Sunday and Marathon Man. As far as remakes are concerned, he is mostly recalled for The Saint (1997) starring Val Kilmer. Evans has also brought to the screen human remakes of cartoons like Popeye (1980) starring Robin Williams and The Phantom (1996) starring BIlly Zane and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Eearly rumors report that the new UFO will be set in 2020; no news about actors, so far. The only known names are those of the associate producers (Avi Haas and Henry M. Kessler), while screenplay will be given to Ryan Gaudet and Joseph Kanarek.
Odd enough, all news stories about the new UFO movie report a summary of the original Gerry Anderson's plot with a small yet significant mistake: the all actually say that in the original UFO series SHADO is locade beneath a Hollywood film studio, instead of Harlington-Straker Studios near London...

As widely explained by Marco raffa, were we go. It seems that really this time a feature film based on the UFO series will be made. As "spokesperson" of ISOSHADO, I would like to point out what our position will be about this new initiative related to our favourite tv series.
First of all, our passion for UFO lies in two very important factors. The fact that UFO is a series of the Seventies, a span of time which identifies, more or less, the age of most of us. 1970-1980 decade, with all its issues and contradictions, has been a very intense period, years that we UFO fans will recall for personal or historical reasons, or both. The second reason for so much affection to the series is the one which motivated the creation of our Association, namely the desire of keeping alive its memory as long as possible, and mainly thanks to direct relationships with UFO actors. Because of this, Ed, Mike and George took on their roles inside ISOSHADO. Our personal relationship with them (like the one we have with Gito and other actors and actresses who cooperated with us in the past) have allowed us to feel our childhood's UFO back at hand, say for the actors physical presence during our meetings (and often in our homes), say for their accounts on their experience on the UFO set.
Either elements (span of time and our nostalgy for that decade and the friendship with UFO actors) are conditions which cannot happen again. As a consequence, ISOSHADO is not planning on getting directly involved in this new UFO movie project, while we shall keep on with our activity of divulging the original 1970 series.
My explanation of our point of view does not want to be totally negative about the project, nor would we take a "snob" attitude towards the UFO movie. As some of us has said "if they would have though about this some 20-25 years ago, how different things would be!"... now for us it is too late.
Too late to find in this movie a true link to the UFO series... Too late to find again "our" Ed and Mike...
That said, we shall all find ourselves (no doubt) at the theatres to see what they'll do with our beloved UFO series... We will not be polemic nor close-minded but some of us will no doubt watch it melancholically.
