L'unico casco originale oggi esistente tra quelli usati nella serie UFO, oggi è di proprietà di Paolo Malaguti.

I caschi in origine erano due, ora è rimasto soltanto questo. L'altro, che era leggermente migliore in termini di dettagli, è stato distrutto tempo fa dopo essere stato utilizzato per varie produzioni BBC, sorte toccata a molti oggetti usati in UFO. I caschi, simili tra di loro, avevano nei primi espisodi di UFO la sagoma piatta ed ermeticamente chiusa che si può notare negli alieni di IDENTIFIED, THE COMPUTER AFFAIR, THE CAT WITH THEN LIVES o SURVIVAL.

Dopo diversi episodi si decise di rendere i caschi "apribili" per consentire ai poveri Gito Santana, Antony Chinn e altri almeno di respirare un po' durante le lunghe pause sotto i riflettori. Da quel momento quindi i due caschi vennero modificati sostituendo i visori con altri due muniti di cornici e cerniere (per aprirli, appunto) e allungando leggermente in avanti i volumi dei caschi aggiungendo altra vetroresina a quella della sagoma iniziale, rendendo quindi un po' più tondeggianti le forme.

I due caschi, quindi, sono sempre gli stessi, e non quattro come erroneamente molti hanno sempre pensato che fossero. I materiali usati per realizzarli sono vetroresina per i corpi (apribili in due al centro dove si vede la banda nera verticale), vetro per le visiere, ottone per le viti, ferro per la banda nera centrale e legno per le tre fascette nere verticali che nascondono alcuni piccoli fori praticati per far passare l'aria (risultati poi insufficienti, tanto da dover rendere necessariamente i visori apribili).

Tre cerniere in ottone garantiscono le aperture delle visiere e delle due metà del casco. Così modificati, i caschi sono quelli visibili negli episodi THE LONG SLEEP, MINDBENDER, THE SQUARE TRIANGLE e ORDEAL.

The only existing original UFO series' alien helmet, today part of Paolo Malaguti's UFO collection.

The helmets, in origin, were two, very similar one to another, unfortunately the other one, that was a bit better in details than this, was destroyed. You can see the original shape of the helmets in the episodes IDENTIFIED, THE COMPUTER AFFAIR, THE CAT WITH THEN LIVES or SURVIVAL. The shape was flat, long and sealed, and this caused many problems to the actors breathing. After some episodes, it was decided to make some changes to the helmets, just to allow a better life to the poor alien actors (Gito Santana, Anthony Chinn and others)!! So they added an openable visor mounted on a large clack frame, and also two additional parts of fiberglass on the frontal surface, around the visor, just to make the shape of the helmet a bit more round.

Thanks to this change a second shape of alien helmets was born, but we can say that if someone believes that UFO had four helmets, he is wrong. The helmets just two, and they were modified from the first to the second shape. You can see these modified helmets in the episodes THE LONG SLEEP, MINDBENDER, THE SQUARE TRIANGLE and ORDEAL.

The materials used were fiberglass for the main body, glass for the visor, wood for three black strips on each side (put to hide a series of unsufficient small holes for breathing), iron for the main black strip and brass for screws and hindges.
